Engagement Shoot At The Ulster American Folk Park, County Tyrone

I first met gorgeous bride to be, Orlágh with her mum at a wedding show in Omagh last winter. After a great chat and showing them a few of my albums, I returned to my studio later that evening to find a fantastic email from Orlágh, wanting to learn more about my work. It was clear from the message that I had the thumbs up from both the bride to be and of course, her mum!

Not long after, I had the pleasure of meeting Jordan, the groom-to-be, when the couple visited me at my studio. After plenty of conversation about their likes, ideas, and vision, they decided to pick me to photograph their big day at Lough Erne Resort in Enniskillen. Needless to say, I was over the moon to have them on board!

For their engagement shoot, Orlágh and Jordan chose the picturesque Ulster American Folk Park. My engagement sessions are always great, and this one was no exception. From the moment we stepped onto the cobblestone paths, it felt less like a typical photo shoot and more like an adventure through history! With so much to explore, the park provided a stunning backdrop at every turn.

Orlágh and Jordan were absolute naturals from the start. Normally, I spend the first few minutes cracking bad jokes to get couples comfortable in front of the camera—but these two didn’t need any warm-up. They were at ease from the first shots!

Beyond the fun, the engagement shoot was great preparation for their wedding day. It's like a sneak peek of what’s to come when you’re in front of the camera. We can be more leisurely with our time on the engagement shoot. Come the wedding day, it will be more, go, go, go! (In the nicest possible way, of course.) Now, they have a good idea what to expect, and I can tell they’re going to nail it when the big day arrives.

The couple had the bright idea to head to the park early in the morning, hoping for some quiet time before the crowds arrived. But as the day went on, the park began to fill up. At one point, they were showered with congratulations and curious questions about their wedding date from well-wishing visitors. One particular gentleman struck up a conversation with Jordan, leading to a hilarious exchange when Jordan asked, "How do you know about the venue? Are you coming?" Turns out another visitor had spilled the beans after chatting with them earlier in the day!

As for the shoot itself, we moved from one stunning backdrop to the next. While every shoot is unique, this one leaned more towards posed photography—which perfectly suited the atmosphere of the Folk Park. Usually, I like to mix candid and posed shots, but for this setting, the structured approach worked beautifully.

I’m beyond excited for their winter wedding at Lough Erne Resort next year! If their engagement shoot is any indication, we’re in for something truly magical. They appreciate quality photography and want their day captured in the best way possible—and I’m happy to be the photographer to do it.

With any luck, we’ll have a bit of snow, some sparkle, and all the magic that comes with a winter wedding! I can’t wait to see them again and capture every moment of their special day.
